It was previously a caoching-stop on a roman road from Bourges to Orléans, and some roman remains have been found in this village. A square tower juts out on the side of its XIIth century church . In the XIXth century, some craft industry was located there, in and around the village, as well as in a 6 kms away hamlet called « gué de la pierre » (stone ford). Alain Fournier’s father used to be a school teacher there. Alain fournier was born at La Chapelle d’Angillon and he wrote the famous French novel « Le Grand Meaulnes ». This village also numbers several registered private properties, and some old XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries mansions can be found in the village outskirts.
