Walter Scott was born in Edinburgh on August 15, 1771. Trained as a lawyer, he turned to literature for personal reasons, and became one of the leading figures of Scottish Romanticism. The creator of the historical novel genre, his works include "Invanhoé", published in 1819.
A great defender of Scotland, he instigated the return of the tartan and kilt, which had previously been banned. He died on September 21, 1832.
